Hey guys. Sometimes I feel like I only come here to post tragedies . . but you guys are the best people to come to when positive energy is needed. One of
my long time co-workers is also a very good friend, someone I first met right after high school. Leah has an awesome family, five sisters. One sister,
Nicole, had just started getting really close with my cousin and all our other friends. It hurts me to say that Nicole was killed by a drunk boater on Wonder
Lake Saturday night/early Sunday.
WONDER LAKE - A 53-year-old Wonder Lake man remained in jail Monday morning after allegedly driving his boat drunk and crashing it
on Wonder Lake, resulting in the death of a Wisconsin woman.
Rick L. McGuire was arrested Sunday after the crash about 12:42 a.m. that left Nicole Jurgens, 21, of Elkhorn, Wis., dead, said Paris Ervin, spokesperson for
the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
McGuire had three passengers in his boat, while Jurgens was a passenger in a boat driven by David Lebrecht, 49, of Wonder Lake. Both were recreational motor
boats at least 17-feet in length, Ervin said.
Lebrecht was transported to Northern Illinois Medical Center, but was treated and released. Jurgens also was transported, but was pronounced dead at 1:24 a.m.,
Deputy Coroner Robert Locke said. An autopsy Monday revealed Jurgens died from trauma to the chest, abdomen, and pelvis consistent with the crash, Locke said.
Results of a toxicology test will not be available for about four weeks and a formal hearing as to the manner of death will be conducted after that, Locke
said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Nicole had recently moved to Wonder Lake and was just hanging out with my cousin and friends Friday night. Everyone around me is really broken up over this.
Unfortunately I never got the chance to hang out with her myself (we always just missed each other!) but I know she had an amazing impact on everyone. Please
take a moment to help me heal all my friends. Thankyou everyone.
